Response to Goode's "Among the Inept, Researchers Discover, Ignorance Is Bliss"

  • most incompetent people do not know the are incompetent
  • people who do things badly are more confident of their abilities
  • skills required for competence are same to recognize competence
  • grammar and humor were "grossly overestimated" by those who scored lowest
  • most able subjects were likely to underestimate their own competence

Is it possible to gauge one's own competency completely objectively?
What red flags can we use to better determine our own incompetence?
